My Approach

I use an integrative approach that combines elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). I believe, and research supports, that the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in successful therapy. With this in mind, I prioritize building a strong, trusting relationship, while also applying evidence-based techniques to guide our work together.

At the start of therapy, we’ll discuss your concerns, goals, and preferences to create a personalized treatment plan that feels right for you. Every person is unique, and I believe therapy should reflect that.

In my sessions, I tend to take a warm, directive, and honest approach. I aim to balance validation and listening with feedback and suggestions. I also value humor, so tend to incorporate that into sessions when appropriate.

Consistent with DBT therapy, I use self-disclosure (share my personal experiences) and practice radical genuineness (share my honest reactions) in sessions in effort to build a genuine, trusting, open therapy relationship. I aim to show up as my authentic self to help others.

I also believe it’s essential to acknowledge the impact of systems of oppression, like racism, sexism, fatphobia, and ableism, on mental health. I incorporate discussions of oppression in therapy and am committed to ongoing learning and engagement in anti-oppressive practice.
